On a particular rainy day, I decided to try Blueberry World’s frozen yoghurt, hoping it would cheer me up a little. I have actually walked past it many times since it is located right outside the 99 bus stop to UBC, however, I never had a chance to try it because the bus times never worked out. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before but I actually love frozen yoghurt. In the summer I spent in Thailand, I fell in love with Red Mango’s frozen yoghurt and I’ve always wanted a substitute. Will Blueberry World be it?

I may very well be biased since I love frozen yoghurt but personally, Blueberry World’s fro-yo is really a delicious treat. I finished the regular sized in a jiffy and I kept contemplating whether I should have a second cup. I find that their yoghurt is more sour, by that I mean, it has more of an acidic taste to it. Some may not enjoy that sour after taste but I certainly do. Their yoghurt texture is not as creamy as Red Mango’s though but I do enjoy this lighter alternative.

A note on the toppings, their fruit selection is fair, however, the freshness and quality of the fruits can be better. For instance, their kiwis were overly sour and they seemed to place their strawberries in syrup water. If you’re a fruits person, you’re probably better off ordering the other berries, they seem to be fresh and non-sugared.

Edit – Blueberry World also offers green tea flavoured frozen yoghurt, however, it doesn’t exactly taste like green tea. I can’t quite pinpoint what it actually tastes like to be honest with you. It’s has this weird sour taste to it but nothing green tea. I was quite disappointed with it. Their green tea froyo is one of those things I would try once but never again.

Grapefruit flavoured froyo for Summer!

Perhaps Blueberry World realised their limitation in flavoured frozen yoghurt so they started offering grapefruit flavoured froyo during Summer. I have to say it was better than I had thought. I assumed it would taste funny like the green tea flavour but instead, it actually tasted fruity. Although, the taste of grapefruit isn’t very distinct but it does have a nice tangy flavour to it.

Due to the convenient location (though it can be cold in the winter because they have their door opened almost 24/7), I have actually revisited Blueberry World many times after. I would only go for their Original flavour frozen yoghurt though. For flavoured froyo, Qoola would be a much better choice.
